About the Tree House

100% of the materials used on our treehouse project came from naturally felled trees, sustainable tree farms, and of a recycled nature.

Only one small palm tree was cut to create our connection system. The entire home, all 4 levels, are held together using a wooden pin system ( no bolts ) All wood was chain saw milled on the property and carried out by hand.

Each block of wood milled down to precise dimensions in our bamboo shop.

This project thus far has been 100% green and each day we learn more about using the naturally & renewable resources of the rainforest here in Costa Rica. Enjoy the pictures ! Contact us for 2008 Christmas - Holiday Rental Information

Our Mission in a Coconut Shell

We all have a need for a home. Our desire is to present alternative dwelling ideas, which thrive with nature and allow nature to thrive with us.

SO what does building a tree house have to do with conservation in Costa Rica and education? For starters the two foster multi-cultural education where an exchange of ideas results. This integrates people of different cultures and affords the chance to build long lasting relationships. All with a common goal of improving the local employment opportunities, while at the same time educating about recycling and using alternative methods rather than cutting down valuable & irreplaceable rainforest tree. When ideas are exchanged it creates brainstorming which has the potential to combine many ideas into a plan, all which benefit the community at large. Not just the back yard where the tree house exists.

The Tree House Projects, Education & Conservation

After we decided that this was a viable idea & found a good tree we began talking & brainstorming about how to go about actually getting this crazy idea off the ground (pun intended!).  We thought a lot about the message we want to relay to the world about Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula & conservation with alternative building ideas. And understand, we do expect that we will have a voice which will be hears far & wide.  Not just because we can yell loud, but because this is not just any old tree house in our backyard.  We want to use this project as a means of education in Costa Rica & inspiration to many people from all over the planet.  And we want to show that with creativity, dedication and some expert help you can have the comforts you want but not at the expense of other living breathing creatures.  With a little thought, even residential developments can build with many renewable resources and give back to the environment some of what existed there before.  We have a Sister Project, which is the example for “green developments” you can see by clicking here.  It is inevitable that man will develop more & more here on the Osa Peninsula- we hope that with our project along with the others on the Osa Peninsula a conscience will develop for prospering yet at the same time allowing nature to prosper.

We believe that this Costa Rica Tree House will affect many people in many special and different ways.  We KNOW that with conservation interest in Costa Rica on the rise we have a broad appeal to many different people – biologists, naturalists, botanists, student & research groups, medical practitioners, yoga groups & artists, just to name a few.   We also believe that many sojourners will be attracted to the tree house simply because it is an exciting alternative for less money than a luxury hotel but with all the conveniences (like running water & toilets!).  Guests will leave, transformed after sitting very close to mother monkeys with babies on their backs & watching toucans call to each other in the trees meters away.  Or watching the splendid Scarlet Macaws (giant red  & multi colored parrots), flapping just above the roofline of the tree house. Or lying in bed on the top level & searching for the Southern Cross while shooting stars streak through the sky – all visible through the clear part of the roof.  Bring out your inner child in the rainforest of Costa Rica.

These experiences are the life changing events, which make you question everything in life. Who you are?  What is your impact during your life?   And what are you doing right now to make a difference.  Are you making a difference in your community?  These are the experiences, which led us to the desire to create this tree house.  To make a difference in a location of Costa Rica which we know is pristine, but will one day be more exploited by man.  We hope that through the years as more & more people experience the thrill of all the beauty & wildlife, the pristine rainforest, the clear river waters, many of which you can drink directly from, that we never forget  we all need homes- but  there are very creative & less or no impact ways to be high & dry!  So come on – what’re ya waitin’ for.  Click here to jump in with us & be a kid!
