Jungle Homes By Michael H. Cranford
Architectural Services in Southern Costa Rica

Designing the perfect home here in the tropics requires for you to listen to nature. Slowing your heart rate and pace of life down to a point where you can actually hear your heart and be still for a moment.
A moment of presence, of peace and divine timing, of patience and of belief.  The Osa Peninsula has all that to offer and more. So you wanna live in paradise ! Here is where you can take your house and property of your dreams & turn them into one special  tropical paradise. And as quickly as things grow here in CR, you have an instant paradise in just 1-2 years. .

I feel that the time has come to embrace nature with our architectural ideas, structures and living space, and to invite nature into our living space, into our living rooms, and into our lives. Nature is always very nurturing and healing. Here in the rainforest, we breathe the freshest air! In the world. Cleanest air on the planet, and we drink the freshest water available. Nature is not always this kind, but always has an open invitation to learn and to challenge us.  I also try to bring your  living space into nature , introduced and presented in a way that creates harmony and balance in your living room, your home, garden and  your world. I recommend living spaces that are open air . My main ingredients to what I do is simple, I pay attention to nature–

  • Open Living Concepts that take advantage of morning and afternoon breezes
  • Staying out of the hot afternoon heat
  • Making sure you are out of the Rain
  • Using the available light throughout the entire day & night
  • Sustainable materials, recycled products, practices and recommendations
  • Minimal Maintenance

To construct a standard concrete / wood 2 story structure is approaching $80-100 floor ft.in 2008, and with continued rising prices of fuel, the costs will double in 3-4 more years. As our precious planet begins running out of resources, we will pay through the nose for everything. Cost to build here in Costa Rica have tripled in the last 10 years. It’s time to think outside the box for a minute and remember that we have options. Great options to use local Teak, Melina and Eucalyptus - all sustainable localyl farmed hardwoods, as well as Guadua Bamboo & river stones. Concrete is generally used on lower floors and for structural support. I offer my services to clients wishing to build homes, from Uvita to Pavones but especially here on the Osa, where many nature loving people live & eat under homes & restaurants I’ve designed. Well designed living spaces  that capture breeze, block afternoon sunlight, keep the rain out, and allow the light in. Each home blending with it’s environment in every possible way. All of my designs here on the My home is not just unique in nature, it’s  unique and it’s “in nature.    I have designed dozens of cabinas, private homes and restaurants in the last 6-8 years here on the Osa, and have helped many couples get started to realize their dream home. My rates are affordable and on some occasions you can have some nice concept drawings to think about for under $1000 - 1500. The solution to designing an efficient home is through communication of what type of home “ living space’ do you want to build? There is a whole series of Q & A’s that need to take place first. But from that point forward it’s pretty easy. You could be up and permitted by the beginning of the dry season ! For referrals and some photos of recent work – email osamike@gmail.com  insert link. Thanks for visiting my website & architectural page, I hope you enjoyed an depth view of both my home, tree house and the other images. Travel safe and I hope you find and can enjoy your slice of heaven as much as I enjoy mine. I hope that you enjoyed my views about nature and living, and e-mail me anytime you if you have a question about design, and placements of your home. I will try to assist you in any way I know how.
